Have you ever had a bad day or experienced unavoidable obstacle and you wondered how it was going to end?
May be, you have gone to the doctor and heard bad news regarding your health. You have gone to work and learnt you’ve been laid off. Answered a phone call that says your child is in trouble. Just watched the stock market plunge as you’re about to retire. These things and more are bound to happen to you or me at any given time. It is NOT a question as to whether bad things will happen or NOT – BUT how we react or respond when they happen.
The incredible truth is that God has chosen to give you access to the greatness of His power. Let us look together at 1 Chronicles 29:11 (AMPC), “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and the earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and Yours it is to be exalted as Head over all.’
To understand the majestic power of God that we serve, let us look at a few scientific facts about the power of solar energy. We all know that our sun a blinding star. It is so huge that about one million Earths could fit inside it.
Here is an adaptation from Dr. Jeremiah’s book, “Everything You Need”
Who is Dr. Jeremiah?
Dr. David Jeremiah is among the best-known Christian leaders in the world. He serves as senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon, California, and is the founder and host of Turning Point. Turning Point’s 30-minute radio program is heard on more than 2,200 radio stations daily. A New York Times’ bestselling author and Gold Medallion winner, he has written more than 50 books.
It takes only eight minutes for a beam of light and heat to travel 93 million miles from the sun to the earth, and it arrives right on schedule and in the exact proportion needed to sustain life on our planet.
The temperature at the surface of the sun is about 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature at its core may reach 27 million degrees. The sun never shuts down, though it may occasionally flare up. Essentially, it’s a gaseous ball of continuously occurring nuclear explosions, radiating energy uniformly in all directions throughout the solar system.
Every second, the sun produces enough energy to power human civilization for almost 500,000 years. Imagine if we could collect and use all that energy! And that’s only one second of its power. Scientists say, the sun has enough nuclear fuel to burn for another 5 billion years.
Yet the sun is only one medium-size star in a universe filled with trillions of others. Astronomers estimate there are 100 billion to 400 billion stars in our galaxy. And images from the Hubble Space Telescope suggest there may be a trillion other galaxies in the universe! Think of all the energy radiating from all those stars and ask yourself, “What source of power could so animate the universe? Where did all this energy come from?”
Simple answer: It comes from God. His power can light up the universe, fire up the stars, power the planets, move the oceans in their undulating tides and give life to every creature on earth without being diminished by one kilowatt.
Let us together look at Apostle Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians in Ephesians 1:18-20; “[I pray] … that you may know … what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, which He performed in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places”
Paul used the word “POWER” – dunamis to refer to God’s power toward us, the word from which we get dynamite. Dynamite can do many things, but it is still limited in what it can do, it can’t raise the dead. But that’s what the power of God did in the Resurrection of Christ. That same power of Christ that resides in you.
It is His creative power, His ruling power, His authoritative power, His sustaining power, and His strengthening power. The word “power” is mentioned over 200 times in the Bible and is mainly attributed to God but is also associated with His blessings to us. The word for power in Greek is “dunamis” (doo-na-mis) meaning FORCE or power.
God’s power is unlimited. Human power gives out, and we ourselves become weary – but His power never runs out. In fact, the Bible says those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength (Isaiah 40:31).
If you’re a believer in Christ Jesus, you’re never powerless. There is no problem or situation in life for which God’s mighty power, is NOT able to resolve.
Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16 (NKJV): “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”
This amazing life begins through the power of the gospel. It began with a powerful scheme of redemption, a powerful incarnation, a powerful sinless life, Christ’s power in bearing the cross for our sins, and the powerful resurrection from the dead, declaring him to be the Son of God (Romans 1:4).
On Pentecost, the gospel was poured out with power (Luke 24:49) and His kingdom came with power (Mark 9:1). It is through Christ we find salvation.
Not only were we saved BUT you and I were delivered out of darkness and brought into His marvelous light! 1 Peter 2:9 declares; But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;.”
2 Peter 2:3: “…. According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue…”
THAT SAME DUNAMIS POWER WAS GIVEN TO YOU TO OVERCOME EVERY DIFFICULT SITUATION IN YOUR LIFE. YOU JUST HAVE TO BELIEVE IT
What happens when we tap into that power source?
There are two beautiful verses of Scripture that tells us what will happen when we connect to that power.
- John 15:7; “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”
- Psalm 91:1; “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
All of life’s struggles need to be taken to our Lord and Savior who states, “I will never leave you or forsake you” (Hebrews 13:4). When Paul was faced with circumstances beyond his control, he realized God’s grace would see him through. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV): “And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Life will give us conflicts, discouragements, heartaches, and grief, but we stand on a solid rock. Temptations are overcome by the strength of God. David acknowledged that in 2 Samuel 22:33 (KJV): He said, “God is my strength and power: and He makes my way perfect”
In Psalm 21:13 (NKJV), David said: “Be exalted, O LORD, in Your own strength! We will sing and praise Your power,” and again in Psalm 46:1 (NKJV): He is “a very present help in trouble.”
With God’s strength and help, you can offer this strength of God to others who need help, encouragement, and comfort. God has brought you through life’s trials so you can help others get out of their miseries. The world needs God, they need the influence of God in their lives. God is calling on us to help them find this power (God’s Dunamis Power) that overcomes every obstacle. Will you avail yourself for HIM?
